Life Events

When you retire from the Merced County Employees' Retirement Association (MCERA), you are awarded a lifetime benefit that is paid monthly. Throughout your life you will need to stay in touch to inform MCERA of any major life events that might impact your benefit and how you receive it.

Examples of Major Events

Address Changes

If you move, be sure to inform MCERA of your new address by completing an Address Change form (PDF).

Divorce or Dissolution of Domestic Partnership

If you divorce or dissolve a domestic partnership while during retirement, it is important that MCERA is informed of any decisions or actions that might affect community property rights to your MCERA benefit. Please review the material on the Divorce page from the Retirement Planning section of this website.

Power of Attorney

There may be a time in your life when you choose to appoint someone else to manage your affairs, including your financial affairs. In that case, you may wish to appoint a Power of Attorney. Please review the information provided in the next portion of this section.

When a Retiree or Beneficiary Dies

MCERA is here to help you at the difficult time of the death of a member or beneficiary.
