Your One-Stop Career Center

Our Career Center can help you learn just about everything you need to know about the job market and provides you with a variety of tools to assist you in your job search. Most services are provided at no cost to the customer, and are accessible at two different locations within Merced County. Worknet provides services to adults, seniors, and youth desiring to upgrade skills, re-entering the workforce or transitioning from unemployment to employment.

Worknet of Merced County, through the One-Stop Partnership, offers just the kind of assistance you’ve been looking for to guide you through the path of career development and job search. One on one counseling is available to discuss training and career decisions, along with informative workshops and specialized training.

Expert staff to help you:

  • Fill out a job application
  • Prepare a resume
  • Prepare a cover letter
  • Prepare for an interview
  • Learn how to survive a layoff
  • Explore different career options

For your job search, you can use our:

  • Fax to send and/or receive applications and resumes
  • Typewriters and computers to improve typing and keyboard skills, or type your own resume and cover letters
  • Phone to contact employers

There is a library complete with:

  • Resume samples
  • Career information and videos
  • Information on colleges and training schools
  • Telephones and telephone books

Check List for Success on Job Interviews:

  • Smile ... be enthusiastic ... and get there early.
  • Complete the application in detail. Be truthful.
  • Research the company and the position to be as knowledgeable as possible.
  • Ask the employer/interviewer to describe the job.
  • Explain how your past experience and qualifications will help you to do the job.
  • Positive attitude. Positive attitude. Positive attitude.
  • Ask meaningful questions about the position.
  • Answer questions by speaking in terms of the position. Emphasize what you can do for the company.
  • Show why you are the best person for the job. Summarize all of the reasons why you should be hired, emphasizing pertinent and marketable job skills.
  • Be prepared to give reasons for leaving previous job.
  • Say “thank you” in person and in writing, stating once again why you would be an asset to the compnay, expressing your interest in the position.
