Responsibilities
The County Clerk's office has many varied responsibilities, which include:
  • Marriages
    • Issues public and confidential marriage licenses
    • Performs civil ceremonies
    • Provide certified copies of confidential marriage licenses
  • Fictitious Business Names (FBNs) - File Fictitious Business Name Statements as required by the California Business and Professions Code
  • Notary Public Registrations
    • Registers notary public oaths and commissions
    • Accepts notary bonds for filing
    • Maintains records of those filed
    • Certifies to the authenticity of a notary

  • Filing bonds
  • Certifying documents relative to notaries public
  • Administering oaths of office to notaries
  • Administering loyalty oaths to County employees and elected officials
  • Filing Powers of Attorney for surety companies
  • Filing and posting public notices and environmental impact reports
  • Certifying to the capacity of public officials
  • Registering Process Servers, Professional Photocopiers, Unlawful Detainer Assistants, and Legal Document Assistants
