Penalties
Misdemeanors are crimes that can carry up to one year in the county jail. Misdemeanor convictions often result in fines, informal probation, and in many cases, time in the county jail.

Obtaining An Attorney
If you are charged with a misdemeanor and are unable to afford an attorney, the Public Defender’s Office may be appointed to represent you. It is important that you discuss your case with your attorney during all stages of the case to ensure the best possible level of representation.

Speaking with Your Attorney
If your case is appointed to our office and you wish to discuss your case prior to your next court date, you may come in for an office interview.  Clients are seen on a first come first serve walk in basis, however if you are out of town you may phone the office at (209) 385-7692 and request a phone interview within the time frame included below.  No appointment is necessary. 

Interview times include:

Merced Office
Mondays:             1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
and
Thursdays:           9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


Los Banos Office
Mondays:            10:00 am to 11:30 am
