CHDP Eligibility

Medi-Cal Children and YouthMus22.JPG
All Medi-Cal recipients from birth to age 21 are eligible for CHDP-scheduled periodic health assessments and services based on the federally-mandated Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) Program.

Non-Medi-Cal Children and Youth
CHDP provides a schedule of periodic health services to non-Medi-Cal children and youth from ages birth to 19 years whose family income is equal to or less than 200% of the federal income guidelines. All children and youth are eligible for health assessments based on the same schedule or periodicity used for Medi-Cal children and youth.

For more information, view the CHDP Professional Brochure.

Foster Care
All children coming into foster care need a CHDP exam done within 30 days of placement. They may have another CHDP exam done when they change placements. CHDP exams are required every year, regardless of age. In addition, children three years and older need a dental exam every year.

Children in foster care are eligible for Medi-Cal, which pays for check-ups. Children shall be seen at the following ages:

First Year of Life
  • Under one month
  • One-two months
  • Three-four months
  • Five-six months
  • Seven-nine months
  • 10-12 months
Second Year of Life
  • 13-15 months
  • 16-23 months
Between Two and 19 Years Old
  • One check-up is needed every year
