Responsibilities
The County Clerk's office has many varied responsibilities, which include:
- Marriages
- Issues public and confidential marriage licenses
- Performs civil ceremonies
- Provide certified copies of confidential marriage licenses
- Passport applications - Accept U.S. passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Passport Agency
- Fictitious Business Names (FBNs) - File Fictitious Business Name Statements as required by the California Business and Professions Code
- Notary Public Registrations
- Registers notary public oaths and commissions
- Accepts notary bonds for filing
- Maintains records of those filed
- Certifies to the authenticity of a notary

Other services of the County Clerk's office includes:
- Filing bonds
- Certifying documents relative to notaries public
- Administering oaths of office to notaries
- Administering loyalty oaths to County employees and elected officials
- Filing Powers of Attorney for surety companies
- Filing and posting public notices and environmental impact reports
- Certifying to the capacity of public officials
- Registering Process Servers, Professional Photocopiers, Unlawful Detainer Assistants, and Legal Document Assistants
- Providing assistance to the Registrar of Voters and Elections Departments, including preparing and conducting elections
