In February of 2010, Merced County CUPA was granted authority to provide regulatory oversight of investigations and cleanups at sites that were impacted by substances other than petroleum products from underground storage tanks. Substances such as heavy metals, pesticides and herbicides are covered by this program. In the past these programs would been under the regulatory oversight of the California State Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).
