In Spring 2006, Merced County began a three-year process to update the General Plan. The Plan is the overarching policy document that guides land use, housing, transportation, infrastructure, community design, and other policy decisions.

The General Plan expresses the County's vision for the future and incorporates public policy relative to the distribution of future public and private land uses.
