Red Ribbon Week 2017 will be celebrated from October 23rd through October 31st. Since its inception in 1985, Red Ribbon Week has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the destruction caused by drugs in their communities.

Merced County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services will host a Red Ribbon Week kickoff event at the Applegate Park M.O.A.T (Merced Open Air Theater) on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The event will run from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and will include informational booths on community events and services, music, gift bags, light refreshments, and kid’s activities. Activities will include face painting, balloon games, and arts and crafts. Attendees will be invited to pledge to be drug free and add their pledge to the “Reasons to be Drug Free” wall. The wall will be on display at the Merced Mall for the duration of Red Ribbon Week (October 23rd through October 31st).
