K-9 Zeke

Zeke PhotoSay hello to Deputy Damian Sparks and his partner Merced County Sheriff K-9 Zeke.

Deputy Sparks has been a Deputy Sheriff for about 4 years, and currently a member of the SWAT Team. Additionally, Deputy Sparks has been a K-9 handler for over 2 years. Deputy Sparks is from Fresno California and he loves being a Deputy Sheriff. Deputy Sparks enjoys serving the citizens of Merced County and he is very appreciative that he’s been afforded the opportunity to do so. Deputy Sparks has said “he can honestly say that everyday i come to work, i am living out a childhood dream and i am very grateful”.

Deputy Sparks enjoys working out in his off time and he is a die-hard San Francisco Giants and Dallas Cowboys fan. Deputy Sparks tries to go to as many games as possible and enjoy doing those kinds of things. 

Deputy Sparks attended and graduated the Fresno City College Police Academy, as well as Adlerhorst Police Dog Handler and Narcotic Detection School, Deputy Sparks is also a graduate of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Basic SWAT School and has also completed the Canine Tactical Operations “SKIDDS Course”.

Deputy Sparks partner, K-9 Zeke, is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois who comes from. Holland in the Netherlands, K-9 Zeke has been in the United States for about 3 years and was purchased by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office from Adlerhorst International in November 2016.

K-9 Zeke’s commands are primarily spoken in Dutch. However Deputy Sparks managed to throw in some commands in English as well.. Deputy Sparks and K-9 Zeke spent 11 weeks at Handler and Narcotic Detection School at Adlerhorst International in Jurupa Valley, CA. which is in the County of Riverside. You can say for certain, Deputy Sparks and K-9 Zeke share a special bond, one that only can be created from spending 11 weeks in a hotel room with a dog .

K-9 Zeke enjoys running around the backyard and having his belly scratched and rubbed by Deputy Sparks family during his off time. K-9 Zeke is a very calm dog and is very good around children, however when the collars come on he knows it’s time to go protect and serve the citizens of Merced County and switches roles very quickly.

Deputy Sparks and K-9 Zeke continue to look forward to providing the citizens of Merced County with the top notch quality K-9 and law enforcement services they deserve.
